Reflection Paper:

This chapter I found that it is an interesting and I learnt some things new through the lesson. It shows prose fiction is a story which is created from the author’s imagination. And it is also a literature created from the imagination, not presented as fact, but it may be based on a true story or situation. Moreover, some say fiction is a part of literature. It is a story told of a person, place or thing that is not real, but imaginary. The subject does not exist anywhere but in the author’s mind. It can be a mystery, humorous, sad, historical, current or even based on truth but the way it is presented and the conclusions are strictly the choice of the author. Of all the types of literature, fiction is the most popular as the stories take us away from our lives and into the lives of others. Reading it is a break for the current reality to take you some places else and into someone else’s life. I have learnt that in prose fiction Plot, Setting, Characters, Conflict, Climax, and Resolution are not real.

The lesson shows that plot is the storyline or series of events that make up the story, but sometimes they are invented to get success in the story. I really agree that the plot of a story is where the reader learns what is happening and in what order: First, Then, Next, Finally. Setting of fiction story is never real; however, I don’t agree because some novel stories usually show the real place and time to describe the real situation happening at that time. Moreover, I agree that all characters in the fiction story are always unreal and they can be people, animals, or things, and it is not real that animals or things can talk. The people in the story look real, but they are not real, they are just kinds of the characters in the story and perform in the main situation.

The authors invent the conflict to make the story interesting and they usually show what the characters face and struggle in the story in the way of the authors’ experiences. And the resolution to the conflict in the story sows the theme of the story. Some situations in the story are sometimes real and the characters will face the real situation, although they are unreal men, and they are about the authors’ experience to solve the conflict in the story. This means that the conflict is up to the most interesting point and then slow down to get the best resolution.

In conclusion I really realize that prose fiction is always unreal, although it is based on a real situation. And It always has theme which is underlying message, or big idea in other words, what critical belief about life is the author trying to convey in the writing of a novel, play, short story or poem, and sometimes I say that there is an educational idea through the conflict of the story.
