Listening Skill Practice Lesson Plan (LSPL Plan)

Aim:                            To teach and practice listening for specific information.
Objective:                   By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1.    complete the table and answer questions about people’s daily activities/ schedules.
2.    use the Present Simple with time expressions accurately and fluently to talk about daily activities.
Target Item:               To revise the Present Simple with time expressions.
Material/Textbook:   Interchange I, Third Edition, Unit 2, Page 12, handouts/piece of paper, and audios.

Lesson Opener: (3Mins)
·      Greeting: The teacher says, “Good evening, everyone”
·      Asking the date:  The teacher asks, “What day is it today?”
                                   - Today it’s Monday.
·      Checking the Students’ Attendance: “Who’s missing?”
·      Warmer: Chatting with the students related to the target item.
·      Title of the lesson:  Today we’re going to listen about daily schedules of some people.

I.     PRE-LISTENING TASK: (10 Mins)
1.    Revising/Pre-teach vocabulary
-     to have/take a bath (picture)     
-     to construct (picture)
-     to last (explanation)
-     an engineer (picture)
-     to graduate (explanation)
2.    Pre-Listening Task:
(Predicting True/False Statements)
-      The teacher sets the scene for the listening passage: “Now you are going to listen to three people-Rodney, Tina and Ellen. They are talking about the daily schedules”
-      The teacher gives the pieces of paper to the students.

Rodney gets up at six o’clock in the morning.


Rodney gets home at eight o’clock in the evening.


Rodney goes to bed at 11:00 pm.


Tina is a teacher.


Tina gets home at 5:30 in the evening.


Tina goes to bed at 9:30 pm.

Ellen gets up at 7:30 in the morning.


Ellen goes to bed around 12 am.


-      The teacher gives instruction and confirms the instruction.
-      The teacher checks the students’ understanding about all the statements.
-      The teacher gets the students to put (T=true, F=false) in the Prediction column.

II.   MAIN LISTENING TASK: (20 Mins)
1.       Main Listening Task 1:
      (True/False Statements)
-      The teacher plays the tape and gets the students to put (T=true, F=false) in the Listening column.
-      The teacher lets them compare the before listening and while listening answers.
-      The teacher checks the answers on the board.
2.       Main Listening Task 2:
      (Comprehension Questions)
-     The teacher says, “Now you’re going to listen one more text about Marija Kusma talking about her daily activities at university.
-     While you’re listening, you have to answer the questions - here are the questions”
-     The teacher gives the questions on the pieces of paper to the students.
1.      Where does Marija come from?
2.      What time does she get up?
3.      What time does she go to university?
4.      How does she go to university?
5.      Does she get home late?
6.      Does she stay up until midnight on Saturdays?
-      The teacher says, “You should read these questions first before you listen to the tape”.
-      The teacher checks the instruction again with the students.
-      The teacher plays the tape.
-      The teacher checks the answers on the board.

III.   POST-LISTENING TASK (10 Mins)
-      The teacher gets the students to work in pairs.
-      The teacher asks the students to take turn and talk to each other about their daily activities using Present Simple and time expressions.
-      The teacher confirms the instruction.
-      The teacher monitors the class and provides some help as needed.
-      The teacher gets one or two students to come in front of the class and report about their daily activities to the class.
LESSON CLOSURE: (2 Mins)
-      The teacher says, “Thanks for hard working today”.
-      The teacher gives feedback, “Today, we have learnt Present Simple with time expressions to talk about daily activities”.
-      The teacher says, “Have a nice dinner”.
-      The teacher says, “Goodbye”.
